EXTRACTION.

We handpick the wood we work with. Certain parts of Bulgaria are famous for the authenticity of their oak beams. It’s what our ancestors’ houses were built with. Some of those beams still show traces of the way they were processed by the old Bulgarian masters. The wood we use is processed to eliminate twists in a particular direction. Or uneven drying over the years.

DRYING.

The lumber goes into a drying chamber, pre-set according to the wood’s characteristics. For 3 days a constant temperature between 80 and 90 degrees is maintained to remove the moisture and get rid of the bugs that sometimes settle in old wood. (Lumber harvested more than 50 years ago). At this stage the air temperature is carefully monitored. So are the humidity and moisture of the wood. Choosing the right drying formula is crucial for handling the cracks. Or possible distortion.

SORTING.

When it’s dry, the lumber is carefully laid in a ventilated place. It rests for 60 days to get rid of the stress of high temperatures and for all the moisture to evaporate. Then and only then it’s ready for processing.
